Sierra Nevada have produced this very good fresh hopped ale by getting hold of some of the best New Zealand hops fresh from the harvest and throwing them straight into the brew kettle.
The thinking behind this "fresh hopping" is that the cones still retain maximum aromatic oils and full fresh flavour. Sierra Nevada have used New Zealand Motueka & New Zealand Southern Cross as finishing hops and Pacific Halertau as a bittering hop, all flown to the USA within a week of harvesting. Combined with US Pale & Caramel malts this is a very well balanced IPA.
This ale pours a darkish golden amber colour with a beige chunky head and very good beading in the glass. The hops do produce a pronounced citrus hop aroma. It has a smooth, mildly sweet taste with a very slight bitter finish.
A very good IPA brewed to a quality standard not a price.
